Description
The first offering from WhirlingSun’s custom watch line is this homage to a Luftwaffe Fliegeruhr pilot’s watch.
Setting out to create a robust, precise, trouble-free, and affordable wristwatch with style, taste and a homage to history, WhirlingSun built these war watches to last.
To keep costs down without cheapening quality, These Fleigeruhr watches feature an imported clone of the 6498 Pocket watch movement that was originally designed for Hunter watch cases but converted into wristwatches. This is a large, relatively simple 17 gem watch movement that is generally regarded as “bulletproof” for its robustness and ruggedness. Running at a steadfast and leisurely rate of 18,000 beats per minute these watches have a power reserve of approximately 46 hours when fully wound. Manual hand-wound watches have no batteries to ever need replacing.
The movement is set into a 43mm brushed stainless Pilot’s case with a mineral glass display back to show off the 6498 movement.
The watch dial is made of Sapphire, the hardest and most scratch-resistant material available.
A large onion crown looks great and makes winding and setting the watch simpler while wearing gloves.
The dial and hands are a typical “type-A” military pilot black dial illuminated with blue phosphorescent lume.
A genuine cowhide leather “Flieger” band with appropriate rivets, contrasting stitching, and stainless clasp finishes off the WW2 era homage of the watch.
It comes in a matching faux-leather storage case with white stitching.
When creating these watches it was tempting to “brand” them somehow, and add a logo or laser engraving, but in keeping with the tradition of “sterile” military watches, there are no superfluous or distracting marking anywhere.
